About Us:
Originally an agricultural community, today Charter Oak High School serves over 2,000 students and is the only comprehensive high school in the Charter Oak Unified School District. Located in the northeastern end of the suburban San Gabriel Valley, the school serves students from the cities of Covina, Glendora, and San Dimas. The area transitioned from an agricultural community in the 1890’s to an ethnically diverse, residential, commuter community with some small business and light manufacturing in the 1990’s. Primarily a middle-class community, occupations vary with many working in the service industry.
The high school has a diverse offering of courses and programs. Charter Oak High School was the first high school in Los Angeles County to offer the International Baccalaureate program, a rigorous college preparation program. The school also has a well established Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) program to prepare students for college. Over the years, the increased emphasis on academics has been reflected in the number of students completing the University of California (UC) entrance requirements. The school also participates in the East San Gabriel Regional Occupational Program (ROP) and in the East San Gabriel Valley School-to-Work Consortium.
The school also offers a diverse activity and athletic program with 46 active clubs on campus and 21 CIF sanctioned sports. Approximately 70% of the student population is involved in one or more sport or club activity and over 50% of the parents have some type of on-going involvement with the school. This is a school community where students want to be and where students are actively involved.
