About Us:
E. M. Pease Middle School proudly bears the name of Elisha Marshall Pease, a former Texas Governor and an ardent supporter of public education. E. M. Pease was born in Connecticut in 1812. Early in 1835 he came to Texas, settling at Bastrop, where he began to study law. After holding various minor offices during the period of the Republic and serving in the state Legislature from 1849 to 1859, Pease was elected Governor in 1853 and again in 1855. For nearly 50 years from the eve of the Texas revolution to this day of his death in 1883, Elisha Marshall Pease was an outstanding figure in the history of the republic and the state.
