Lakewood is one of eight high schools in the Long BeachUnifiedSchool District. The school district includes four cities: Avalon (Santa Catalina Island), Lakewood, Long Beach, and Signal Hill. The main entrance of LakewoodHigh School fronts Briercrest Avenue. Other streets forming the boundary of this 32 acre campus are Centralia (north), Lomina (east) and Harvey Way (south). The doors of LakewoodHigh School were opened to students September 16, 1957, when 1770 sophomores, juniors, and seniors attended classes for the first time. Lakewood is the architectural twin of nearby MillikanHigh School, which opened in 1956.
