Since its inaugural graduating class of 13 students in 1903, Yorkville High School has prepared Yorkville community’s most treasured resource, its students, to prosper in the post-secondary world. Now entering our second century of service, the school has grown to meet the ever-evolving needs of the Yorkville community; however, the essential core values of academic excellence, community stewardship, and school pride have stood the test of time.
Yorkville High school serves nearly 1,700 students supported by nearly 200 staff members on two comprehensive campuses. Since the onset of 2008, Yorkville High School Academy opened its doors as an exclusive “freshmen campus”, with our upperclassmen, grades 10-12, being served on the YHS Main Campus.
Presently, nearly 4 out 5 students served at Yorkville High School pursue post-secondary educational opportunities via community college, vocational school and/or university. Our comprehensive academic offerings include Advanced Placement courses, as well as dual credit college and vocational offerings. We also offer our students a chance to explore a wide variety of electives including: world language studies; music, fine arts; and a variety of career and technical related courses. Regardless of the of a student’s post-secondary pursuits, we pride ourselves in the ideal of Making Excellence a Habit through a laser like focus on success in the classroom, post-secondary educational opportunities, and personalization of the learning environment.
As we embark on a future that has yet to be written, we are extremely thankful for the wonderful community support that helped us create some remarkable 21st century learning spaces for our students to thrive. Our recently completed renovation project included state of the art Science labs that are the envy of most colleges. The new Engineering & Computer Science learning spaces grant our students the opportunity to explore, innovate and fabricate the designs of the future. Our new academic wing houses fully integrated classrooms designed to optimize student learning through collaboration, infusion of technology and personalization. Not only can students hone an excellent mind, they can also cultivate a healthy body in our ultramodern Fitness Center. Finally, the “crown jewel” of our most recent renovation, our cutting edge Library and accompanying Learning Stairs, serve as a catalyst for our students’ scholarly journeys.
This year over 400 graduates will walk across the graduation stage towards a bright and prosperous future; however, as Yorkville continues to grow, WE still hold dear the values at our inception, our sense of community.
